You could have told me in 1999. In fact, among the initial responses
to your initiation of the thread, it was suggested that you do so.
One suggestion even said something about protecting "other women".

As you know, that thread was extremely long and there were many
suggestions and much discussion about them. Some people encouraged
telling the "groper", but others did not feel it to be necessary or
useful for various reasons. It was why I started the thread in the
first place. The only clear (to me) response was to stop dancing
with you. Anything more seemed to me to be fraught with all sorts of
possible negative outcomes from protestations of innocence to retribution.

I will note that even though your name was never mentioned in the
thread, you did in fact proclaim yourself innocent of the precise
actions that I described having happened. No other leader made any
such claim in the thread. And in fact you went so far as to say that
if any such thing happened it was because the follower did it, not you.

Given that, I saw no point in doing anything more than just stop dancing
with you.

I did, however, mention your name to several of my female dance friends
at the time the groper thread was active. I don't believe this could
fall into the category of warning others, however, as all of them had
been dancing longer than I and already had similar opinions of you.
