Follow-Up/Somewhat OT: Camera Recommendations for Dance Events

A couple of weeks ago someone asked for some digital camera
recommendations. His criteria was that it be small, able to fit into
his pocket, relatively good pics, and video capable.
One of the regulars, I think Mike Corbett, recommeded a Casio Exilim
EX-S500.
I was in the market for a new digital camera, and a friend had a Casio.
I really liked the big display and was impressed with the video clips
and play back. Based on that experience, along with Mike's
recommendation, I purchased a Casio Exilim EX-S600 (the 500 was no
longer available).
I used the camera this past weekend at a family wedding, including
videotaping the entire almost 4 minute wedding dance, and have to say I
had extremely positive results. Easy to get started, easy point and
shoot features, great video features, I was able to play back on both
the camera display screen and on a TV (cords included). I was very
impressed and pleased, great color, great clarity. It's going to be
perfect for dance events, the video feature allowed me to zoom in or
out, even though I was recording (something my previous Canon & Kodak
digital cameras did not allow), sound played back with the clip when
watching the clip on the display screen (something the Kodak did not
do), and easy to use fast shutter, which will be great for dance action
shots.
After the wedding, we plugged my camera into the TV, and using the
camera features, played a slide show of all the pics, including
watching the wedding dance. It was great and very easy to set up & use.
There are only 2 minor inconveniences so far... one is, when I rotate
the camera to take long-view shots, the camera does not automatically
rotate the picture to allow for easy viewing - but that's minor, that
can be done once the pics are downloaded. the 2nd is,.... the camera
uses a slim, rechargable ion battery. It allows the camera to be
remarkably slender, which is great, but once the battery goes down it
is not easily replaced as would be the case with AA batteries. The ion
battery has to be plugged in and recharged... so I can see it would be
advisable to have a back-up battery charged and ready to go..
Other than that, I'm really happy with it. I'll be experimenting more
with it this week in Cozumel. Just wanted to share.
Happy 4th!
