I have to agree with Ed here. It is implite at best to post a
"header" revealing the results and expect everyone west of the Hudson
to refrain from checking this newsgroup for any messages at all until
after the program airs across the rest of the country. It would be a
simple matter to simply change the header (example:"Tonight's
DWTS-discuss results"). Then, anyone who opens the discussion issue
does so at their own peril. It is just a matter of common courtesy in
my eyes.

I think it's impossible to expect the rest of the world to know what every
individuals circumstances are. I think it's foolish personal conduct to come
to this dance newsgroup immediately after the live airing of a dance show
that gets regularly discussed here and expect it to not be discussed.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Although at first I thought Ed's and David's opinions had merit, I now
think Bob's stance is far more sensible.

Nonsense. David said it all...don't put the results in the header, but let
the header announce that the contents contain the news. That's called
common courtesy and reasonable forethought. Any writer from an earlier
time zone should have the sense to recognize there are people in later
time zones.

It's not the writer's responsibility to accommodate the miriad of
readers out there,
unless there was (intended or inconsiderate) offensiveness.

I agree.

Although some readers may not want to know the results ahead of time (particularly
because of time zones), there are probably also some readers who'd like to know
ASAP (either before seeing the airing or because of not being able to see
it).

I'd be willing to bet that the number of people interested in seeing the
results "live" far exceeds those who you describe.

It's not unusual to have other comp results posted here as soon as they are
known, so why should this case be different?

Poor analogy. This isn't a competition that's going to be aired at a later
time, unless you're talking about people who want to wait until the videos
are released, which is an absurdity.

Readers are grown adults. They don't need to, and are not forced to,
check the newsgroup every few hours (get a life!!!).

Again, a poor analogy. What about the countless people who regularly read
their newsgroups at the end of the day when they come home from work? Do
you expect them to change their habits because some dolt from the East
didn't have the common sense to think of others?

Any reader from a later
time zone can use common sense and anticipate a writer from an earlier time zone.
would have the smarts to not post the results in the header.

Think positive. Use this mechanism to impress your friends! Find out
the results from the NG and "predict" it while viewing it "live" with
friends. Let them "know" how much you know about dance.

Right...and hope your friends don't discover you're a fraud aided by
someone who didn't use his brain..
