The only "meritorious" argument I've heard ignores that the lack of
morality behind the initiation of the war, and embraces that the end
justifies the means. To wit: The US now has control of Iraq's oil and we
have established twelve permanent military bases in the Middle East. The
cost of 1,900 lives is cheap compared to what we have gained.

Of course, that philosophical rationalization comes from the ignorant and
stupid segment of the populace who fail to recognize how those means have
destroyed American credibility throughout the world, the immense financial
burden foisted upon the US citizenry that will be borne for generations to
come, the seeding of thousands more terrorists, etc., etc., etc.
