You're correct, especially as Bush's communications are imprecise so
often. But, what about Karen Hughes, a professional communicator,
officially speaking on behalf of presidential candidate Bush?
"If we are going to commit American troops, we must be certain they have a
clear mission, an achievable goal and an exit strategy."

In the context of supporting the serviceman's pledge to do their duty, you
make an interesting point. In this regard, while proactively condemning
the president's actions and demanding that the troops be brought home, one
could support the troops by assuring they received proper equipment,
medical care, veteran's benefits, books, letters, magazines, cookies, etc.
I think it's a relatively simple task to send the message to the troops
that we care about them and their welfare, but we hate what they are being
forced to do.
Imagine being the spouse of a German soldier during WW2 and passionately
hating what your fuehrer was doing. What would you do to support your
spouse?
How demoralizing do you think it is to the troops when their leaders tell
them to fight in inadequate numbers, with inadequate equipment, and the
knowledge that when they finally do return home, their veteran's benefits
have been reduced to a level of inadequacy?
