You realize, of course, that you just advocated "suburban sprawl."
Um, no--I advocated denser populations...preferring ten one-acre
lots to one ten-acre lot.

And yet you criticized my preferance for single family homes on lots
of between 1/3 and 1/2 acre.

Ugh. Too small. That is down almost to the 1930s urban bungalow
40-foot wide lot scenario. Pack them that tight, and I'd almost rather
live in an apartment. No room to do anything, and you still have to
mow anyway. This 2/3 acre lot is about as small as I can stand. The
1024 sq. ft cookie cutters with houses 2 arm-spans apart, and every
kitchen window looks into the kitchen window behind, make me queasy.
YMMV, of course. If cost was no object, I'd have a house in the middle
of 5-10 acres, with a 1/2 acre fire break around the house, and leave
the rest of it to take care of itself.

Personally, I'm a bit torn. OTOH, I wouldn't mind living in a
loft/condo/apartment in a city under the right conditions. OTOH, your 5-
10 acres sounds pretty good.

As it is, we have a little more than 1/3 of an acre. We have about 40-50
feet between our home and our neighbor's. As things were built, the
front yard is the smaller of the two. So we have lots of room to the
rear. I suspect that I'd feel differently if our street went anywhere.
As it stands now, the only people that drive here either live here, or
they live within a 100 yards of here. With only 7 houses on the road,
that means we don't have a lot of traffic.
