Either way, it'll be interesting to see how he portrays this group.  I
never heard of them before today.

They've gotten a lot of press lately because one of the
Congresspersons who was caught in a recent sex scandal was a member of
the group, and was alleged to have used the group's house for trysts,
and been protected by them in doing so. (Presumably they figure the
Commandments are for the little people.)

I'd heard of the organization before the recent news, though. My
impression is that the "Christian" descriptor is there more for an
implication of respectability than for any adherence to a belief
system. Rather it seems more of a way for certain ambitious
individuals to develop a network of connections with powerful people
that will help them, in turn, become powerful people and groom more
potentially powerful people.

I haven't read the book "The Family," but my husband (who is a
historian and an interested observer of both religion and politics)
did, and was impressed by the reporting.

One of the most interesting -- and dismaying -- aspects of the
situation is that this C Street Congressional Crash Pad/Frat House is
listed on the tax rolls as a CHURCH and thus exempt from any taxes.  I
always wonder why it is that these guys who insist they hate taxes so
much hardly ever pay any themselves.

I find that situation quite consistent.  The weird ones are those that
love to raise taxes while at the same time taking advantage of every
credit, loophole, tax shelter, and miscellaneous dodge to avoid paying
those same taxes.

All the more reason we we need to (and thusly will never) get rid of
the income tax and go to a National Sales Tax.
