OTOH, Mrs. Palin's performance could be fairly attributed to her brief
tenure as government and the short notice she was given regarding the VP

the requisite knowledge base given a few years to do it and access to
decent resources.
She's 44, and she can't even name a newspaper she reads regularly?
Not even one? I think there are valid reasons to doubt her ability to
develop the requisite knowledge base, because _she simply isn't curious
about the world_.
You missed the point -- she turned the question into a whine about how
the liberal media thinks there are no newstands in Alaska. It was a
wonderful moment. "I read all of them," followed by bleating about how
Alaska is not deprived as the media would suggest by asking the
vicious, clueless gotcha question, "What newspapers and magazines do
you read?"
Which is to say, any question can be turned into a complaint of
victimization.
"How are you?"
"Why do you assume I have health problems? Our healthcare system is
the best in the world. Canadians come to the US just to see our
doctors without having to wait. The media refuses to acknowledge the
facts!"
That said, please please PLEASE make her the nominee in 2016 or
2012. Hell, please make her the public face of the GOP.
The conservative movement is sliding into a trough, in which former
fringe people who were tolerated and even held up as oddball
celebrities have become the apparent mainstream. This happened to the
liberals after Watergate and Vietnam, and it took years to make it
clear that the silly people were not the true spokespeople for
progressive thought.
I suspect it will take another pummelling for the conservatives to
straighten out their house, but maybe they'll smarten up faster than
that. However, the "Palin is our future" and "Where's the real birth
certificate?" crowd are going to make it difficult -- 30 years ago,
the liberal wackjobs didn't have the Internet to make them appear to
be of credible proportion.
