I like "mom" a lot too. In general people's personalities don't

Sally trying to come to terms with her) will play out.

I have to think that Ces is a "no hugging, no learning" kind of guy.
I doubt Mom is going to change a bit; Sally will just have to accept
the way things are and decide she's not going to wreck her life
worrying about it. These days, "Sally Forth" isn't the place to go if
you're looking for treacly, teary resolutions to family conflict.

Sure. We're not going to see a "very special" Sally Forth, but I think
people can come to terms with their crazy relatives without either side
"changing".

First, I don't see her as "passive aggressive." I see her as
the kind of person that I wouldn't allow in my house. I'm quite
serious about that--if a grandparent can't keep from saying things
to their grandchild that make them feel worthless, then they can
just take their moldy old carcass back to Florida or Arizona or
whatever other coffin-dodger metropolis they inhabit. Being a jerk
to adults is bad enough, but there is NO reason a parent should
allow that kind of stuff to go on. However, I understand it's a
comic strip, so . . . it doesn't have to be like real life.

Second . . . um, I guess I said everything I was going to while
ranting in the previous paragraph. I must say that SF is much
less boring than it was in the past. But it *would* be a lot
better if the kid and her little goth friend would drown grandma
in the sink or something. Now _that_ would be edgy.
