When Mrs. Gare_NY was last pregnant, with our daughter, she was
terribly ill, and on bed-rest for over 6 months. My company at the
time allowed me to work from home.
In short - the day time was a total bust. Between taking care of the
wife, getting the two older ones ready for school, taking care of the
younger one at home, and the usual litany of never-ending household
tasks, I barely got any work done at all in the daylight hours.
Typically, I would do the dad thing all day, get everyone to bed, then
sit on the couch for a few hours with my laptop and dial in to do my
work.
This in itself was rife with issues.. such as the time I woke with a
start one morning, and realized my laptop was missing... I found it
face down on the ground next to the couch, the screen shattered.
Oops.
One Ebay purchase and some precision-screwdriver action later, and I
was all set. :)
Anyhoo, everything worked out in the end - a beautiful baby girl, wife
recovered nicely, and I returned to work full time. And I hated it. I
hear stay-at-home's who complain about having to juggle, but I'll tell
you, I loved it. Wish I could do it again.
