Well now. If that is an actual quote from the bible, then I have
been proven right.That's more of a command to work six days straight
than a benevolent gift of a day of rest. Repeat the first five
words. They're up front where it counts. (optional)Insert the word

That's one way to look at it, but it's the wrong way, in historical
context. Having *any* day off, other than the occasional festival and
local god's holy day, was pretty much unheard of, let alone one day in
seven. That it was respected even by the Roman empire was, I believe,
a source of envy, not the least reason for which being that it
effectively meant that Jews were exempt from conscription, as nobody
wanted soldiers who couldn't be made to march one day a week.

Imagine if it had been phrased the other way around: You shall work
one day out of seven, but the other six days are yours to do with as
you will. Is that similarly a command to work rather than a grant of
free time?
