If she was planning (slipping into 2D speculative mode here) to give her
some sort of cold shoulder treatment, making it clear she had no
interest in parenting and doing no parenting, *that* would have been out
of order. Make all the up front declarations you want, but if you have a
kid, there are some things you just can't blow off without messing with
the kid's head in an unhealthy way. I'm not talking about becoming a
"soccer mom", but at the same time, the answer to "Hey mom, I need to
talk to you..." can't be 'Who, me? Sorry kid, I was just the delivery
van. Buzz off and talk to your father; I've got a PowerPoint
presentation due Friday.'
But, we'll never know one way or the other. The comic strip universe
plan could have just as easily been drawn as, 'Okay, I've taken time to
build my career, and now the kid is older and more aware, so now I'm
ready, willing and able to step up and fulfill at least basic parental
duties.'
That is, if Therese wasn't EEEVIL INCARNATE. ;-)
