How is the authentication done? Can I use a cookie-based "Remember me
on this computer" option?
Is there any proprietary Microsoft or IE bull*** involved in the
navigation and/or display of comics?
Same question for Java/JavaScript.
Do they spam the email address you use to register? ("Spam" for this
purpose means "Any email you sent unless I clicked a box telling you
to go ahead and send it.")
I tried to view the "FAQs" link from the home page, but was rewarded
only with a "Sorry, can't do JavaScript" note. So I have to ask you.
I use Firefox, and when I first accessed my login page with Java and
JavaScript disabled, I got this message:
"This website makes extensive use of both cookies and JavaScript. Without
these features enabled in your browser, the functionality provided may be
limited. Please reconfigure your browser to allow both cookies and
JavaScript and then restart your browser. Also, please note that firewalls
and personal firewall software may prevent the use of cookies and/or
JavaScript. They may need to be reconfigured or disabled as well."
Despite those warnings, I can in fact navigate my DailyInk comics, including
the magnification feature, with both Java and JavaScript disabled in
Firefox, no problem. The only difference is that, without JavaScript, I
click "+" and the browser moves to the jumbo-sized image (so then, I have to
back-space to my comics page) -- instead of the jumbo image opening in a new
window as it would with JavaScript. Other than that, I can't see that I lose
any functionality without Java and JavaScript -- unless maybe it would have
been needed only during the initial set-up of my page?
The logon page does remember my username and password (reliably in Firefox,
less so in IE), which I assume is cookie-based. I haven't identified them as
the source of any third-party spam, and I think the only email I received
from them directly was the renewal notice.
Haven't tried it on a Mac, and I don't do Linux. Hope this helps.
