Sounds like a misuse of the term "liberal arts." You might want to
reread my original post in light of the sense in which I'm using the
term. Keep in mind that it is possible to major in any field as part of
a liberal arts education. The liberal arts college that I attended had
biology as one of its particular subject strengths.
I still think my original point stands, which is that the broad "liberal
arts" model of education is more likely to give the breadth of knowledge
that Tinsley thinks college students lack, and is also more likely to be
found at the type of school that values diversity and all that other
stuff that annoys him.
That's all I meant and I'm sorry it spun into this blasted "humanities
vs. science" thread.
