I've worked with some editors who didn't care whether stuff
was any good, funny or made a point. If it made people
write angry letters, then that meant they were reading it,
so let's run it. That made my bad stuff good, and my good stuff
(OK, not-so-bad stuff) irrelevant.

I think a lot of editorial cartoons are that way (not good, pointless
and unfunny) but that gets them attention, and makes them successful.
