There's always an exception. You say "no, I'm not taking my
shoes off." I don't regard it as any part of my
civic duty to bathe my feet in everyone's fungus. It takes
a little longer for them to wand you, paw your suitcase,
and ask if you want fries with that, so if I'm in a real
hurry I don't bother.
The issue with shoes is clearly not metal as it is with keys.
I don't know exactly WHAT the issue is. The cynic in me says
it's better theater, and that's all.
