On the other hand, there's something to be said for experience in
politics. The worship of the mythical
"outsider" is another thing that doesn't really move me.
It seems to me that there is a streak of "we can't
trust anyone actually in a job, with experience, they
surely are corrupt elitists who are only going to rip
me off." This isn't only about politicians, either - it
happens when people talk about "I would never hire
a plumber, why do those guys make so much money?
I'll have my brother do it" and then the bathroom floods.
Scientists are buffoons. Academics are to be laughed
at. While we're at it, math is hard.
The hero is always someone born with the skills
and who has a Good Heart, who comes in and shows
those entrenched people what for. I find it a curious
attitude.
Yes, I realize I've rambled on.
