I realize it was a fill-in run but it had to be planned out well in
advance because it wrapped up many of the dangling plot threads that
had been going on and set the stage for Morrison's run...regardless,
the point I was making is that Morrison is weak on
characterization...Lobdell's take on Cyclops's post-apocalypse issues
made more sense for the character and were more interesting in my
opinion.
Each are valid approaches. One has Scott freed from the burden of
Apocalypse and somewhat seeing the world anew or whatever. The other
has Scott freed from Apocalypse, but still carrying some of the
residual effect, which takes much longer to recover from.
Morrison's handling of Cyclops also may have led to Milligan's
handling of Apocalypse, who seemed to be more "Scott-like" in his
behavior. Whether this itself would be a plus or a minus depends
on what you think of Milligan's Apocalypse (which certainly drew its
share of complaints here.)
I liked it, despite one or two lines that grated on me. It's a much more
interesting version of the character than the one that appeared throughout
most of the 90s. That character appeared a lot, but I think it's telling
when you consider exactly how many stories he was the main focus of. It
wasn't many. I think my favourite version of the character was the one that
appeared in X-Factor in the 80s.
