Okay...so how to fix "Brand New Day..?"

A lot of us seem to dislike it...is there any way to fix it?

(Aknowledement paid to those who *do* like it...hey, nobody at
Marvel's gonna listen to us, anyway...)

For me, the heart of Spidey has always been that he's a hero who has
problems in his life...you can't let Spidey's life get *too* good...it
would ruin the essense of the book. It's kind of like if you let
Charlie Brown become well-adjusted, or let Porkypine smile...it just
won't work well.

So, can BND be fixed, in a way that Marvel won't lose all credibility,
and yet allow Peter to have some angst fitting for his former life?

I don't think they should just undo BND, as much as I hate it, and
would be happier if it were just GONE. If they do "undo" it, they
need to be very damned careful how they do it...fortunately, they have
the out of whatever it was MJ whispered to Mephisto...if she can be
said to have tricked him in some way, or proposed that he can undo it
if he doesn't like how it's working out...welllll...this has some
possibilities...

But if we assume that the retcon is here for good, and Harry is alive,
and Pete and MJ were never married...can this mess still be fixed?

My solution is to giv e the memories back to someone...just not the
reality.

For example, if Pete finds out what his life was before, and what it
has really cost him, I think this would really haunt him. He can't
*do* a damned thing about it, but it adds to the angst. He doesn't
necessarily remember the past as much as know how it really went...

or...

MJ could get the memories back. This could make her kind of
interesting. Not memories as if she actually lived them, but that the
other world is what is "supposed" to have happened. So we get the
crazy-hot-stalker-girlfriend-I-don't-really-think-I-should-get-
involved-with-this-chick thing going on...

or...

We could have a visit from May "Mayday" Parker (no idea how..."we
don't have to explain it if it's done by magic"), who has memories of
a very different past than what revised Pete has...she wouldn't have
to stay around very long, but it could give Pete some weird angst
about his life...

or...

Aunt May could get a clue about what the past was really like, which
gives her Peter's identity (which I think she ought to have, anyway),
along with Peter trying to deny it, and Peter's obvious reaction that
the ol' gal is finally going senile, except for that *one* li'l detail
that she *does* seem to know an awful lot about what he's been up to
the last few years...but what's with all the crazy crap about being
married to the hot redhead?

or...

JJJ could get the memories...which would change him in some ways I
can't really imagine...he knows who Pete really is, and what Pete gave
up to save his aunt, and even remembers beating the crap (well, sort
of) out of Pete/Spidey...does this finally make him respect Spidey, or
pity him, or...what? And how does Pete deal with this new-found
relationship....the newspaper editor-boss who, although still cranky
and pissed off, still repects what Pete is doing, and helps where he
can?

or...

Harry Osborn could get the memories, a la Tasha Yar and Guinan in the
Next Generation ep "Yesterday's Enterprise." Harry *knows* he's
suppoed to be dead, dammit, and even recalls being reconciled to Pete
at the last moment, and yet...and yet...

This does nothing for his sanity.

Or...

Norman could come back from Europe with all the memories of the last
several years intact. (I'm not at all clear on his status...if
Harry's alive, did Norman ever return? Does *anyone* but Pete know
that Norman was the GG?) It still goes to the insanity of the
character...

Other ideas of how to fix BND are welcome...they'll never bother with
any of them, anyway...
