everything before the little "pocket reality" that we saw for a few
months, though no one remembers that except for a few that were near
Wanda when everything went back to normal with lots of mutants no
longer being mutants. No continuity changes there.

I'm not saying there are continuity changes. Rather, I'm saying
the opposite. (If the bit about reality being altered to match the
altered memories confused you, I'm referring to things like Aunt
May's house being restored.)

As I understand Quesada's statements, Mephisto has done something
similar to what Wanda did when she created House of M. He hasn't
changed the history of Earth, but has instead changed what people
remember, in addition to some new alterations to the present time.
That is pretty much what Wanda also did.

Then why does everyone keep saying that Wanda had reality altering
powers? Face it, there are public records in print and on tape and
film, not to mention DVDs, CDs and web sites. If those weren't
altered then there's a lot of confusion that should be causing public
uproar. And don't forget, Wanda actually removed the mutant gene (or
some such) from all but 198 mutants. She created children for
herself.

They are altered. But they are altered from the present time.
While both writers and readers were a bit confused about exactly what
House of M was and did, Marvel seemed to be saying that Wanda didn't
change history, she changed the current reality. She didn't go back
in time and change an event that led to the creation of House of M,
she just reshaped the world into House of M directly.

That's still a tremendous amount of detail to have to change when
you're not omniscient. You have to change memories, move people from
one place to another, alter bank accounts and loads of computer
records.

This is how Quesada can make the Crisis distinction. Quesada saw
JMS' method as rewriting history and changing decades of Spider-Man
books, but his own method as leaving those books as happened but with
a new current reality. With JMS, Harry never would have died in the
first place. With Quesada, Harry was dead up until OMD and alive
after OMD, with people presumably having altered memories about
Harry's death and fake memories about his life afterwards.

Again, a lot of detail to have to change so that memories mesh with
the physical evidence.

It is reality manipulation.

Note: We didn't have any time travel in House of M, so we don't
know what would have happened had someome tried to travel to
before House of M. We don't whether Wanda's manipulation was so
powerful that it created a new real past, or whether a time traveller
would instead arrive in the unchanged Marvel universe. Mind, we
aren't entirely certain just what Quesada has done, either...

And with Nova off-planet, what would he remember if he came back?
