Annnyway...
Unfortunately, most of the time, he has to play this totally over-the-
top psycho, and it's a little hard to reconcile dramatically with how
nice he is when he's good. For me, anyway.
But truly, this film took the character to the next level of stupid.
You could practically see the writer's hand moving into the frame
during Bernard's pep talk towards the end. Harry's character turn
strained all kinds of believability. I'm not sure that this could have
worked in any film given any set up, though the fact that Spider-Man 3
was so busy with competing plots and character arcs almost
necessitated that Harry's flip-flopping would have to be abbreviated
mercilessly, so it was almost futile to even attempt to justify it. As
told, it made little sense--it's like, the notes may have been right,
but somebody forgot to play most of them.
Well i guess my major point about how stupid harry's dialogue was was
that if he lost his memory, he should have acted like he did in the
very first spider-man when him and pete were friends. But it wasn't
like that. He was all sunshine and lollypops, like he was straight
out of a bad 50's donna reed episode. It was just beyond cheesy.
Otherwise i think we're on the same page here, you put it well.
2. Why did peter's character suddenly look emo? Does emo = evil? I'm
not a fan of the whole emo phase, but again, it made absolutely no
sesne why he would just put his hair down to look emo just because of
the symbiote. You can start acting like a jerk and being evil without
having to look emo.
Heh. I don't know. I thought it was funny, and most of the people in
the theater were laughing, but I wasn't thinking overly hard about it.
Yes, people in my theater were laughing too, but it's laughter for the
wrong reason. J. Jonah Jameson adds humor because those scenes are
meant to be funny. I don't think people laughing at how ridiculous
and stupid peter looked when the film is trying to convey how evil
he's becoming and how much of a womanizer he is is really what the
filmmakers were aiming for...but maybe.
I wouldn't have thought hard about it, but it completely took me out
of the movie.
3. How did brock find marko so easily? Why is brock's first thought
that he needs to team up with some other lunatic running around the
city before he's even fought spider-man once? How did brock know
*anything* about mary jane, let alone where to pick her up in a cab?
Sure, *i* know that the symbiote knows everything parker knows because
i've read the comics. But they did not explain that in the movie at
all.
Sure, these are logical holes in the movie that probably should have
been filled. That late in the film's staging, exposition tends to bog
the build to the climax, but the whole thing was strangely--if not
poorly--paced, anyway, so that's not really much of an excuse.
But see, there weren't *nearly* that many logical holes in the first
two, so i expected way better than this.
4. Why did spider-man save gwen stacy and then no other shots of the
out-of-control crane were shown??? He didn't stop the crane, it was
still ramming into buildings, there was still tons of debris
falling...it was just a sloppy, sloppy job by the writers/editors.
hm. You may be right about that. I actually don't remember what he did
after saving her.
Me and like 3 people in the audience said, "uh...so he's just going to
leave the crane out of control with debris falling on people?"
I dunno, just disappointed is all.
