--I think Joe Q's driving force against the marriage is that it
presents a Peter Parker that--at his core--is fundamentally different
than the timeless classic that appeals to a younger audience.
Never mind that this "younger" audience isn't picking up comics in
droves, and that *we*, the older audience (late teens, young adults
and onward) are the one supplying the backbone to the industry.
Tony(also, nevermind the fact that we already have two timeless
versions of Spidey being produced by Marvel)
Never mind that married Peter Parker may appeal about as much as
unmarried Peter Parker.
Never mind that part of that timeless classic was also that Peter
was still a kid, which itself figured into how his not being married
was perceived. Why doesn't Marvel also de-age him to sixteen or so
while they are at it?
The worst thing about Peter being married to me was what Mary Jane
had become and would become. An actress and a model? Being married
is one thing. Being married to a supermodel whose face is billboarded
across the city is another. (Which itself is a general flaw of
Marvel, that popular women are often treated as some of the most
people people in the world.)
