Macbeth and Lady MacBeth, Othello and Desdemona, King of
Denmark and Gertrude, Gertrude and Claudius, John and
Delenn.

Or Reed and Sue, Ralph and Sue, Nick and Nora, Lois and Clark,
Wally and Linda, Tommy and Tuppence, Sam and Sybil, Elisabeth
and Philip, Tony and Cherie, Tom and B'Ellana, Jonathan and
Martha (easily the most interesting characters in
"Smallville", bar the Luthors)...

The belief seems to come about because TV people have a
tendency to base a series on a "Will they/won't they"
relationship, and then, when they do, failing to replace it
with anything. So when the series' popularity subsequently
drops, they blame the fact the couple got together.
