It doesn't address the obvious point that there will be 'lots' of dead

dead. Underwater mutants should be dead, speedster mutants could easily
have died if they were doing 100mph when demutanted and so on.

I would have thought that the underwater mutants, especially the one in
the pool that someone pulled out, would have gone to the surface, seems

be a normal instinct, if you are suffocating, you go to the nearest air
source.

Juxtaposed with Melody Guthrie's ill-advised flight attempt, the obvious
implication seems to be that this Hydro kid more or less went the way of
Ophelia.

Quite possibly. How he managed to actually kill himself though is still
odd. Much like halfway down Melody would have realised she couldn't fly,
you'd think that after one attempt of breathing water you'd realise you
couldn't. I would assume it's quite difficult to purposely drown
yourself without aids? (not the disease)

I wondered about that, but I wasn't sure what his powers ever were. I imagine that if he had an aquaform, then when he suddenly became human and his dispersed body solidified into his new completely human body, that he might have found himself human, in the deep end of the pool, with the stomach and lungs completely flooded with waterm, simply put he was dead as soon as he became human.

Even if he was only physically amphibious, his oxygen from water extracting
"lungs" would have been filled with water at the moment of conversion to
human, so it's possible his physiology was waterlogged that way too.

I believe this was his first and only appearance :) So no idea and I doubt we'll ever now.

Perhaps his mutant ability was to be alive ;)
