The only state I know is New SOuth Wales and that's only because I
have a friend staying in Sydney for another year (cue horrible penal
colony jokes ;O)

I know that most of western Australia only play Aussie Rules and
League and hate Union and Cricket, but I haven't a clue which state
falls where.
