(I would go so far as to say that Final Crisis, which was completely
dominated by metafictional techniques, obsessive fourth-wall-breaking,
a non-linear ahistorical approach to the story, multiple intersecting
timelines and the various multiple versions of characters therein, and
a complete lack of interest in versimilitude, was in fact the very
opposite of The Lord of the Rings, which is still one of the
outstanding examples of world-building - a "sub-creation", as Tolkien
called it - in literary history.
But perhaps when Morrison says "'The Lord of the Rings' of the DCU,"
he means "the opposite of 'The Lord of the Rings'." Embrace the
contradiction!)
That's it! He meant the anti-matter Earth's (or Earth-3's) version of
Rings!
