Morrison's X-Men brought me back to comics after having taken a

exceptional. Same with FC.
Morrison would be much better if he could stop the experimental
crap.
He's put out some good stuff that way. Would ANYONE care about
Animal Man and Doom Patrol if he hadn't taken the risks he did with
them? He clearly can play nice when he wants and still push
boundaries - All-Star Superman proves that. But he may work better
on his own stuff, like The Invisibles.
I've only seen a little of his Animal Man and Doom Patrol, mostly
because that came during a period of extreme under-employment. But it
seems to me that he may have reached a point that he feels that he has
to extend beyond that to be fresh. But maybe he should have gone in a
different direction rather than going too far in the old direction. I
used to like Kirby's stuff both at Marvel and DC. By the time he was
involved with Pacific Comics he kept on trying for innovation each and
every issue. That would have good except that it was all pointless.
Most of his better received stuff ran for longer than seven
issues. Maybe it wasn't trying to extend beyond his past efforts,
but rather just a case of squeezing his ideas into such a short
run. He had big ideas, but not the room to properly realize them.
Okay, a lot of what did make it into FC would be bad regardless,
but maybe it would have been better if things had been more spread
out and there had been room to expand ideas.
Well, the original Crisis did run for twelve issues, didn't it?
Here's an interesting thought. Revive DC Challenge and let Morrison
write the first issue. Then see if anyone else wants to tackle the
next one.
You'd probably have to triple-dog-dare them.
