Have they ever expressed how they feal about having different
generations fill the roles of Green Lantern, Flash, etc? Dan Dido was
talking about DC going into the fifth generation. Five different
people will have been the Flash in regular continuity. Earth has had
at least five or six different Green Lanterns. Yet except for a brief
period here and there, Bruce and Kal-El and Diana have held their
roles as Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Have they ever commented
on this, or are we to pretend that they don't notice?

I don't remember a comment from any of them on the legacy
situation...I don't think they really care as long as they can do the
job...if they treat anyone differently (especially in Batman's case),
it's because they're less experienced...not because they're legacies.

Personally, I think DC has gone WAY overboard with the legacies
lately...it seems like they won't be happy until they've replaced all
of their major characters at least once...hell, it looks like Batman's
about to get replaced too, for better or worse (probably worse).

And I wouldn't consider Green Lantern a legacy really...certainly not
in the same way that Flash is...the GLs are space cops...which means
more than one.

But only one per sector.

Actually, it's two per sector since the GL Corps reformed...but,
regardless, there have been multiple earth GLs since at least the 70s
and, with the exception of Kyle, none of them have been treated as
true replacements or legacies...and all have worked concurrently with
one another...in fact, there's never been a period when Guy or John
were the only earth GLs...Kyle is the only one who could arguably fit
the description and that was an aberration in the GL mythos...now he's
just another one in the crowd.

In fact, when John Stewart was introduced, he was as Hal's BACKUP. So
here's this ex-military badass guy sitting around with "the most
powerful weapon in the universe" in his sock drawer doing nothing with
it. Because there can be only one GL per sector at any given time.
Great rule. Jesus Christ, there should be multiple GL's per PLANET in
each sector. I mean, I never see Hal or John anywhere near Abin Sur's
planet, whatever it's called. How much *** goes down there that they
never do anything about because they're always dicking around with the
friggin Justice League?

I'm with you on this...it's part of the reason I'm not a huge fan of
Johns' GL run...it's too earth-centric...and I think this makes
particularly little sense when the focus is on Hal...he should be out
in space trying to make up for all the *** he pulled as Parallax.

And why is it that Hal was the first GL from Earth, who was basically
picked by accident, and when he shows up all the other GL's disparage
him for being a primitive human, but then the next 3 GL's from this
sector are all from Earth, too? Because Hal turned out so great? Sure,
but you can't really say that Guy or Kyle are nearly as great as Hal.
I know, I know, it's an old argument and it's a tangent, just wanted
to vent, sorry, but at least I didn't go on about how they're also all
Americans and men.

Actually, I'd argue that Guy or Kyle are superior to Hal because he's
far too arrogant and it always gets him into trouble...whether he's
flying military missions without wearing the ring or trying to rewrite
the universe the way he thinks it should be, I just don't find that
particularly heroic at all...I remember reading Cosmic Odyssey where
John's arrogance destroyed a planet and thinking that it seemed more
in character for Hal than John.
