DC used to flood the market with Prestige Formats - lately, to my

Elseworlds basically flooded the market with prestige format books.
When they were phased out, the prestige format basically went silent
too. Since then, special miniseries (like SHAZAM! and JLA/AVENGERS)
use the format, but those seem to be few and far between.
Elseworlds has been phased out? Hm. I'm all for a shared universe (if
it is consistent, which these days is apparently too much to ask), but
I thought the Elseworlds concept allowed for a lot of interesting
alternative takes. Have they actually abandoned that concept? Are they
flooding the market with so much in-universe stuff that they don't
have the budget to do Elseworlds as well? Actually, I hope they bring
the Elseworlds back in some form.

Well...they don't use the official "Elseworlds" title anymore...though
there are still the occasional stories of that type that come along
(The New Frontier, for example)...but, with the reintroduction of the
multiverse and all the focus that has been placed on it, the days of
the standalone alternate reality tale or "imaginary story" are pretty
much over...at least for the time being...and I'm no happier about it
than you are.
