Now this is a real question.  I want to take out the Didio factor for a
second and examine the comic on its own merits. This post is slightly
long but try to read it.

I am of the belief that the comic takes place in the earth of the 7
Soldiers comic. Not a big revelation I know. If the Earth of the 7
Soldiers is the Earth of the main DC Universe I think this indicates a
fundamental shift in the foundation of the DC universe. By shift I mean
the intellectual foundation underpinning our (the readers) assumptions
about the DC universe. This shift I think is very subtle but there are,
shall we say, implications.

People may argue that the 7 Soldiers comic is in the regular DC universe
and that Final Crisis fits perfectly into the cosmology that is DC.  I
don't think that I can categorically dispute such a position.  I think
that I can only point out parts of the background in 7 Soldiers and
Final Crisis redefine the past of DC. My essay wishes to point out that
if the past history of Earth is redefined then the present must too be
redefined.  I am of the opinion that the definition will not be positive.

Let us go back to 2005.  7 Soldiers spent a couple issues outlining

1) The birth of humanity on the earth
2) The nature (or rationale) of the civilizing force. In this case
imposed on humanity thru a 'special' non human agents (notably not God
but alien New Gods)
3) The order (or ascendancy) of creation.  New Gods came before humanity
thus 'old gods' like the Greek Pantheon of WW came AFTER the New Gods
and Apokolips.  The Greek Pantheon and others did not civilise humans,
the New Gods performed that duty by evolving and not creating. [Evolving
and not creating is an important distinction.]
4) The nature and creation of the first human hero was not thru an
internal force but was uplifted by alien science (and by implication
effecting the entire lineage of Earth heroes and Gods?)
5) The cyclical nature of destruction of the present. Degenerated
humanity from the future literally cannibalises the past.
6) The first hero Aurakles, still lives amongst us. A small point but
his existence proves the scientific origin of mankind.
7) In 2005 the Apokoliptian Gods existed simultaneously on Earth and
Apokolips. The 2008 Death of the New Gods must internalise the two
contradictory threads.

I have read up to comic #3.  The unfolding story for the death of the
New Gods seems atonal to what we as readers know about the history of DC
Earth to say the least.  My point is that to look beyond the plot issues
from the series I can see a tectonic change happening.  Just because we
cannot feel the earthquake does not mean that it did not happen.

What does it mean to have WW get her power from Gods which came AFTER
the New Gods and by inference thru the alien uplifting technology of her
genetic forebear, Aurakles?

By any measure this is a fundamental shift in conceptual thought.  Most
people won't care now but any longtime reader can see the huge potential
problems which lie in the future.

Is Didio and company prepared for the repercussions of such questions?

Maybe DC need to simply create an Earth-Morrison and just leave it at
that. That wouldn't be such a bad thing.
