I think for some of us--not necessarily me and not necessarily in
regard to this case--the question is "how many generations get to
profit from the creative ability of their ancestor?"
In this country, the answer is: as many generations as it takes for
the copyright to run out.
And the problem is that Congress--at the asking of the corporate
owners of items like Mickey Mouse--keeps extending the copyright.
"Steamboat Willie" is currently scheduled to go PD in 15 years (95
years after 1928). Look for Disney to start lobbying Congress for
another extension starting around 2015.
