Ok, so I've heard that Jason Todd is full-on Red Robin now. Hearing
this upset many fans, who felt that JT was a murderer with no right to
even a version of the Robin title...

So, has Countdown succeeded in redeeming the character and patching up
his moral failings, which seemed to be the entire reason he was
included in its main story? Is he finally in some way worthy of
standing with Batman and family inthe Final Crisis?

Dex

I don't know, but DC needs to team him up with Guy Gardner to see what kind
of trouble they get into.

The problem is that Jason's far worse than a "hero who kills the
villains". He's tried to set up Nightwing to look like a murderer as
well as beating the snot out of Robin. And I'm not sure what he's done
to Batman.

Michael

I have always enjoyed Jason a lot more than the lily white cookie
cutter Robins we've seen. I have to side with Jason on the fact that
if Batman hadn't been so damned noble and had actually offed some of
the villans there'd be a lot of innocent people still alive.
Does Jason deserve the Red Robin title? Hell yeah he DIED for it, he
deserves the Bat mantle.

But he didn't die.

Superboy Reality punch and all that.

Michael

Sorry Michael I missed the reality punch thing..what was that about
exactly...?

IIRC, Some of the abupt changes in the DCU were attributed to Superboy
punching the walls in the space that he, Alex Luthor, and the Golden Age
Superman and Lois Lane have been in since CRISIS On Infinite Earths.

One of those hits resulted in Jason waking up in his casket and history
having been rewritten to say that everyone THOUGHT he was dead.

Doesn't sound like a rewriting of history to me. Everybody DID think
he was dead.

Well, everyone DID think he was dead.

Until that one scene in "Hush" gave some non-afiliated cretive types a really BAD idea.

Seriously, it wasn't an alternate-universe version of Jason that switched bodies with our dead Jason. He was dead, or at least sure was doing a great impression, got buried, Superboy had a hissy, punched something, and Jason suddenly got much better. How that's interpreted by DCU history after Final Crisis when all the dust settles is anyone's guess.

IIRC, one of the issues explains what he'd been doing between his "funeral" and his reappearance.

I never got the impression that the reality punch actually created a
coherent past in which Jason was thought to be dead but was actually
buried alive. It's hard to imagine Batman and all his superfriends
being fooled. Reading the story, it just looked like it was something
that happened - a live Jason (perhaps from a branching timeline, and
with who knows what set of memories) just woke up in dead Jason's
coffin, and clawed his way out.

If, in fact, in the post-InfC history of New Earth, Jason actually
never died and was buried alive, then he has good reason to be
irritated. But I just can't imagine that history happening. (Well, I
can imagine it. I just can't imagine it making any sense. But that
applies to Amazons Attacks as well....)
