I'd think part of the problem would be portraying the green beam
properly. It's very easy to do with a cartoon outline, but how would it
appear in real life? It would have to look solid when it was supposed
to be solid, but like a beam of light when it was supposed to be that
... yet both "states" must look identical. It wouldn't be something
glowing from within, but it must have that quality. It wouldn't
necessarily be reflective, but it would have to have that quality to a
degree to keep from looking like a green silouhette (sp?).

Okay, I definitely didn't get enough sleep last night.

Nah, I get what you mean. It's very difficult to transition from a
green beam of light to solid object, yet still appear to be made of
light, similar to a hologram but more translucent. And then when the
GL allows his imagination to relax again and his construct
deconstructs there would need to be another transition from light
hologram to light beam. It would be expensive to say the least.

What I was visualizing, actually, was doing both at the same time,
WITHOUT a transition at all.

Hey, I know! You could do it Super-Friends style, when they had GL
throw his beam into this big green cloud that eventually condensed into
a raft ...

Actually, that would be worse than Jack Black as GL.
