Any artist or writer trying to "satisfy the audience" gets a big stamp
on their head in my little black book. It says "DEAD. DON'T BOTHER."

I'm sure they're all broken up about that.

Besides, you're wildly exaggerating. THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN is
perfectly in line with Batman's character, as is ALL-STAR BATMAN.

Yeah, I disagree. Wildly.

It's the storytelling which gets people riled up, because it's nothing
like what you'd have expected from THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS or "Year
One."

It's nothing like I would have expected from someone who had previosuly
proven that he had mastered the english language. I mean, you're right
- I didn't expect this specific tone from him, but I was disappointed
to get it. I think living up to (or eceeding) expectations are the main
part of existing in commercial art. One of the things I've always
admired about Frank Miller is how much he has evolved as an artist and
writer. I thought doing Sin City after DKR was perfectly in keeping
with this evolution and a great contribution to comics. Same with
"300".

But DKSA was just sloppy and seemed to spiral out of control after the
first book, and I found ASBR to be just unlikable. So it's not what I
would have expected from him, because I expected him to step up his
game, not show disrespect to the characters and the audience by writing
sloppy, unlikable stuff. If I liked that style, I wouldn't have been
previously looking to Frank Miller to deliver that. I would have been
reading Chuck Austen or Devin Grayson.
