the exceedingly shitty All-Star B&R, I'm keeping an open mind about
anything I haven't read yet (or at least read a reliable review of).
Sorry about the previous post that had nothing new (I hit the wrong
button). Miller can talk all he wants about this being some kind of
time-honored tradition based on the comics of WWII, but those were such
different times. I wasn't around then, but I think it was a time when
pretty much the whole world, aside from the Axis nations, were united
against a common foe and we clearly knew he the enemies were. Today?
Well, it's a lot different.
al-Qaeda? Bad. Very bad. But then, who exactly are we going after? In
spite of how anyone with a brain knows that Iraq wasn't involved with
9/11 our unelected puppet of a president still wants to believe that,
and what has he, and his puppet masters, done to actually bring bin
Laden to justice? Not much. We seem to arrest a "#2 Man" in al-Qaeda
every other week, but how do we really know what's going on? Iraq's a
quagmire that's getting worse, Osama and al-Qaeda are still out there,
and is Miller planning to address the fact that of the 9/11 hijackers
were Saudi, citizens of a nation that the Bushies have always been in
bed with? What's been done to deal with Saudi Arabia's role in all of
this? Again, not much. But, we've sure opened the door to more and more
terrorism in the Middle East.
Who exactly are we supposed to fighting at this point? if Frank Miller
ever sobers up, he might start wondering the very same thing. No, I
don't know what he's going to do with this book. But I also don't see
what good it's going to do. Other than maybe fan the flames of hatred
some more, not to mention insult the memories of those who have died at
the hands of terrorists, whether Arab or American, by having Batman
just waltz in and take them down. Personally, I'm just insulted that
Miller's taking my favorite character -- a character he used to have
such a great handle on -- and potentially turning him into some kind of
jingoistic pawn of the Bush regime. Bruce Wayne has probably never been
identified with a political affiliation, but I believe can safely say
he'd never allow himself to become that. I've lost enough faith in
Miller after the crapfests of DK Strikes Again and the A-S B&R books,
but this new book is definitive proof he's lost his mind.
Surprising that Morrison would lash out at a fellow DC writer - perhaps
he's gettign possessive of Batman, or perhaps he thinks FM is losing
his grip with All-Star. Or maybe they've never liked each other. Could
be proefessional jealousy - as crummy as FM has been lately, Morrison
has nothing in his oeuvre on par with Miller's best work, at least in
terms of grabbing the public by the short hairs.
Maybe not, but he's been consistently better -- and more entertaining
-- for quite some time now. Someone get Miller into rehab, and fast.
