I guess Lois and Jimmy were originally "kids".

So now we have to ask the question, Why is Superman robbing the cradle?
Is Supes a perv?

A quick look at Phyllis Coates or Noel Neill shows that he isn't. The
word
"kids" isn't always restricted to minors. I will occasionally use it to
refer to my younger brother and sister (ages 44 and 42). It was used
affectionately about anyone a couple of years younger than the speaker,
just
as a 70 year old man is occasionally called "young fella" in rural New
England.

I think "kids" can also be used in a humorous manner to indicate that
you're looking down on someone as a superior much like a sargeant
might refer to his charges as "girls" as in "Come on, girls, get the
lead out!"

I do remember Reeves using that line and I'm sure he wasn't calling
Lois a kid.

Well if you watch the old serials Lois and Jimmy do seem to act like
youngsters.
I mean he did call both of them kids, not just Jimmy, and Clark does seem a
lot older.
