--a fact that various writers over the years forget. Just take a look
at Supergirl #4, compared to, say JLA: Earth 2. In the latter,
Morrison shows us one of the most competent, powerful MM's ever. He
tells Ultraman that anything he can think of, J'onn can read his mind
and alter his body to counter.
In the former, J'onn is caught by Supergirl when he attacks her
invisibly.
How--with invisibility, intangibility, strength AND telepathy--would he
get caught, if he were written competently?
Personally I feel J'onn *and* Captain Atom should be more powerful than
Superman. The powers J'onn shares with Superman are enough to put him
on par with the man of steel, and adding in his additional ones causes
him to surpass Supes.
Of course I'm the guy that thinks Captain Atom should be more powerful
than Superman since he accesses the quantum field and can theoretically
draw forth an infinite amount of energy, so what do I know?

Being attached to an infinite energy source isn't the same thing as
being able to use infinite amounts of energy.

--I'm not sure that he's need to *use* that energy. I liken Captain
Atom to the Silver Surfer in some ways. They're both connected to
resevoirs of energy that are immeasurable. As such, they can draw
forth those energies for fantastic destructive potential.
I guess I'm speaking of power in terms of "how much destruction can one
character cause if they went all out". I think Captain Atom is
potentially far more powerful than Superman in this case.
Superman is clearly meant to be stronger, faster, and more durable than
Cap though. So on a purely physical level, I can see that he's more
powerful than Nathanial.

As an aside, I recall when John Byrne was writing Wonder Woman (and was
online in the DC forums) he was trying to convince everyone that Wonder
Woman was #2 in *power*, right behind Superman (an argument I'm not
sure he *ever* won; I know I never believed it, and nothing he
presented during his run changed my mind; at least not unti he made her
a goddess--though she really didn't do much with her godlike power).
One aspect of his argument were their respective power sources. He
feels Diana's power source is the Earth, and the only thing greater
than that is the Sun (Kal's power source). Of course he never
commented on the fact that the Quantum Field is a greater source of
power than the Sun.
