They all get sprung at the end, and that not onlymeans a bunch of the JSA's old foes are still around to fight, but
Harlequin is around for Green Lantern to hook up with!
Yeah, but Harlequin wasn't really a villain, she just sort of played at
one. She helped the JSA a couple of times. I'll bet she managed to
follow Alan into limbo. After all, there'd be a lot of people there,
and Fate would know she wasn't really evil.
Alan could still be seduced by her and not know he had kids. That
"year" in limbo would allow for a lot of small stories like that.
And personally, if we were retconning everything, I'd be willing to
give up the Alan doesn't know Jade and Obsidian are his kids part of
their origin. If we need to keep him an absentee father while not
making him a jerk, have Harelequin do some undercover work for the FBI,
then have to go into witness protection. Just before she leaves for
the program, she seduces Alan. She gets pregnant but can't tell him
because it will blow her new cover. Yeah, you'd think she could be
protected by Alan, but he's moved on, married someone else, she does
the noble thing by not wanting to break up his marriage, you get the
idea.
The dates can be a little flexible. Some of the kids could go into
limbo as babies to make them a little older. We could have Fate set up
the spell so that anyone can go home any time just by saying a code
word, but with the knowledge that he couldn't bring them back. That's
incentive for family to stay in limbo because they don't want to be
separated. But maybe there are some heroes that leave early for one
reason or another. As much as I hated to see Johnny get alzheimers and
die, I'd believe that he'd accidentally say his code word and come back
early, thus letting him be older. Besides, since he bonded the the
thunderbolt, Johnny can be easily brought back at any time. It's only
the really permanent deaths, like Wes's, that I'd want to undo. Let
him and Dian be permanently retired and travelling the world, maybe
using his fortune to bankroll some other heroes.
