You're talking my language there. I loved both those books. Let's
face it though, Blood Meridian is definitely his magnum opus. I'd
love to hear what everybody says about it.

Sorry Michael, but Blood Meridian to me was the reading equivalent of
hitting yourself in the face repeatedly with an anvil.
It certainly does get your attention. I was amazed by it at first, but the
unremitting misery and violence became pornographic in no time. I guess
it's just one of those books that some love, some hate, and some just can't
even figure out why they kept reading it, but couldn't stop.
This will REALLY upset B.M. lovers, but honesty compels me to say that the
feeling I got from the book was not unlike that I got from reading American
Psycho, although McCormack deserves better than to be mentioned in the same
sentence with Ellis. And believe me, no one who knows me would ever accuse
me of having delicate reading or viewing tastes.
