Read _Molly_ by Stephen Crane (also author of _The Red Badge
of Courage_).
_Molly_ is available on-line from Gutenburg. It's about life
in a New York slum around 1900. The characters speak to each other
in "orc-talk".
Why bother? I can get the same thing, going to any
big city ghetto, and hanging around the car wash.
