JOHN HEMINGWAY
reading & booksigning for "Strange Tribe: A Family Memoir"
Tuesday, June 12 at 7 pm
"Strange Tribe: A Family Memoir" reveals the peculiar dynamics between
Nobel Prize winning writer Ernest Hemingway and his youngest son
Gregory. Gregory, the author's father, tried to live up to Ernest's
macho reputation. But as a cross-dresser and (eventually) a
transsexual, Gregory was obsessed with androgyny and his female half.
In this wonderfully crafted narrative, John Hemingway reveals how
Ernest and Gregory (who both suffered from bipolar illness and were
both fascinated by androgyny) were "two sides of the same coin."
John Hemingway, a grandson of the Nobel Prize winning author Ernest
Hemingway, is a writer and translator who lives with his wife and two
children in Milan, Italy.

KAUI HART HEMMINGS
reading & booksigning for "The Descendants"
Monday, June 18 at 7 pm
How to explain "The Descendants" the new novel from San Francisco
writer Kaui Hart Hemmings. It's "The Lovely Bones" - an odd and
heartbreaking coming-of-age story - except that it's much funnier.
It's "Prep," except that in addition to a pitch-perfect portrait of
adolescent girls, there's a mom in a coma and a dad bungling his way
through parenthood and total catastrophe. It's hilarious, it's tragic,
it's a page-turner, and it may well be the best novel out this summer.
Kaui Hart Hemmings grew up in Hawaii. A former Wallace Stegner fellow,
she now lives in San Francisco and works at the Writer's Grotto. Her
work has appeared in Zoetrope, Best American Nonrequired Reading, and
the L.A Times. She is also the author of "House of Thieves," a
collection of short stories.

Brown, Bruce Springsteen and others), "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" is a
remarkable scrapbook of memories and stories from the wild and famed
life of the iconic singer-songwriter.
Crystal Zevon, who compiled "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead," was Warren
Zevon's lifelong companion and former wife. At her Booksmith event,
she will be joined by Kathy Goldmark, founder of the Rock Bottom
