The Nikkei 225 peaked in late 1989 (at 38,915). It went downhill from
there, but the collapse of the asset price bubble was deepest in 1991.
The whole 1990's were known as the lost decade, with average GDP growth
of about 1.5%/year (compared to 4% in the 80's).
