Did anybody else see an echo of Crest of the Stars in the second

Of course if the scenario had played out in the same way then Alice

Is there some sort of censorship that keeps Anime that explores the
Japanese imperial domination of the Far East from being released? It
seems like they just skip from Edo to modern Japan with just a few
titles on the immediate post war period. So they just project
themselves onto European imperialism.

The only non-alternate world anime series that I can remember that covers
any of the post-Meiji to WW II time frame is "Haikara-san Ga Touru", in
which the Haikara's husband is sent to the Siberian front and fights in the
border clashes against the Soviets in the 1920s.

It's too bad in many ways. The Japanese Navy actually participated on the
Allied side in WW I in the Mediterranean Sea and hunted German U-boats. The
Japanese Army also captured many of the German colonies in the Pacific.
Those tales could make interesting war dramas.

Probably too modern. Samurai with swords and bows is sufficeintly
removed from modern warfare to not stir up feelings about later eras
like the debacle of WWII and the American occupation and the threat of
China in the post war period.
