I just finished watching Bandai Entertainment's Region 1 DVD of "The
Girl
Who Leapt Through Time" and I am very pleased with the quality. Over
the
past couple of years I have, for the most part, been waiting for R1
versions of anime movies to come out instead of paying the premium for
the
R2 releases and once again this has turned out well.
The R1 DVD is Bandai Entertainment 80380, English 5.1 and Japanese 5.1
Dolby audio, full English subtitles including song lyrics and many
signs,
16:9
Cool, I notice that a lot of English dubbed R1 titles don't translate
the
signs and other things like letters, notes, book titles, etc Many
fansubs
do trranslate them so it's a shame when the R1 releases don't. I liked
the fansub version so when I see it locally, I'll buy it [can I say no
lost sale and get away with it?]

anamorphic widescreen and approximately 98 minutes long. There are a
number
of "extras" on the DVD including audio commentary with the director
and
cast, a video of the premier event in Tokyo, a music video, the
theatrical trailer and a promo clip.
Other than the DVD, there was nothing in the case. That was a bit
disappointing when you consider that even Meitantei Conan R2 DVDs
contain
collector post cards, and they are pretty much the worse case for R2
anime DVDs.
The video and sound quality were great, even though I played the DVD
back
through my ancient Pioneer LD/DVD player, albeit on my brand new Sony
Z-series LCD TV. The English subtitles were quite good and I couldn't
fault them for anything other than the usual choices that any
translator
has to make.
The movie itself is wonderful to watch again and has a timeless
quality
to it. The Japanese voice acting is great and I suppose someday I may
even listen to the English dubbing.
If you haven't seen this movie, go buy it and watch it. If you have
seen
this movie, go buy it and watch it again.

limited Edition version $36, I got the LE version 'cause it has the music
CD. Case is a cardboard box that looks like a book (clever that), with 2
thinpac DVD cases for the 2 DVDs (obviously), and the music CD in a
regular
CD case shrink wrapped. Pictures on teh inside, and each thinpac has a
cover insert with a picture of a city block on one, and a (probably)
scool
ball field on the other. The music CD cover is identical to the outside
cover except for the title/printing. knowing the cost of some music
CD's,
the $14 extra was worth it even though I haven't listened to it yet. I
think the outer case design is neet, and the first to look like a book.
Wonder why the R.O.D. set didn't come like that?
(looks over at the book containing ROD disks)
Ummm, it did, if you knew where to look. It came with Disk 1, and
you had to buy all the other individual disks to transfer to it, but
it was a book. With crappy clasp and everything. Still have the
singles cases, for the artwork, and I'm keeping the pencil cards in
one.
relevent pictures re anime, I don't have a web page of my own and don't have
the foggyest idea how to make one anyway??
