After reading the angel and mermaid threads, I thought I'd make one where visitors could ask about anime series, OAVs and manga/doujinshi that featured other themes, character types and/or storylines.
For example...
- How many anime and/or manga feature the 'traditional' pantaloon-clad, wish-granting (and, oftentimes, female) genie?
Well, I can think of a short feature that was reprinted in the first
volume of Toriyama Theater, which was called Chobits (no, wayyy before
Chii), and that featured an idiot cop that slightly resembled the later
Goku (hair style) and a little alien that slightly resembled the
I Dream of Genie character. This was originally done around 1983.
I know that there was one in the anime series, Gokudo, that changed his gender to female and granted a few of the title character's wishes but that's pretty much it. (and I think that wish for her to shut up could have lasted longer but that's just me) ^_^'
- How many of them feature crossovers and cameos?
Going to Dragonball (the manga), an early issue featured the denizens
of Penguin Village (namely, Arale, Norimaki Senbe-, Turbo and the
others from Dr. Slump; this was early in the Red Ribbon saga.
If you include people dressing up as characters, I can think of
a story in Urusei Yatsura (manga again) where you had a ton of people
dressed up as American characters (Shinobu as Wonder Woman, Lum as
Vampirella (for some reason I think that was in the anime as well),
and a variety of other characters).
In Maison Ikkoku (the anime) Lum, Ataru and Shinobu (kid versions)
were in there pretty regularly, usually running through a scene.
That's all I can think of at the moment.
.
I know that there was a play on Crayon Shin-Chan in an episode of Sailor Moon and read that a 'swords and sorcery' series featured Muttley (from Wacky Races) as a 'temple guardian' but I'm sure that there are a lot of other examples available.
I'm not trying to launch a lawsuit or anything - I'm just curious about them on the off-chance I decide to write a fanfic or something. *shrug*
I'll save my third question for later (it involves characters like Spiral and Buzzsaw Girl) but, in the meantime, please feel free to answer these questions and add your own.
With any luck, visitors that are looking for, say, stories featuring robot girls will develop a 'taste' for Chobits or Ghost in the Shell and support the creators of these 'franchises'.
Thank you all for your answers.

who will gladly admit to seeing Porky in Wackyland, Duck Amuck and Teen Titans: Fractured over the last little while ^_^
