After reading the angel and mermaid threads, I thought I'd make one where
visitors could ask about anime series, OAVs and manga/doujinshi that
featured other themes, character types and/or storylines.
For example...
- How many anime and/or manga feature the 'traditional' pantaloon-clad,
wish-granting (and, oftentimes, female) genie?
I know that there was one in the anime series, Gokudo, that changed his
gender to female and granted a few of the title character's wishes but
that's pretty much it. (and I think that wish for her to shut up could
have lasted longer but that's just me) ^_^'
- How many of them feature crossovers and cameos?
I know that there was a play on Crayon Shin-Chan in an episode of Sailor
Moon and read that a 'swords and sorcery' series featured Muttley (from
Wacky Races) as a 'temple guardian'
That would be "Ruin Explorers" (and he was the pet/companion of one of
the characters, not a temple guardian). Muttley also shows up in "Miami
Guns", as the pet of Yao's father.
but I'm sure that there are a lot of
other examples available.
Speaking of Yao's father in "Miami Guns", he bears more than a passing
resemblance to Gendo Ikari from "Evangelion". Miami Guns even has one
scene that's shot-for-shot identical with a scene from NGE.
Often, crossovers and cameos spotlight works by the same creator. Three
examples:
During a chase scene in one of the "Urusei Yatsura" OAVs, the crowd run
through a restaurant, startling Ranma and Ryoga from "Ranma 1/2" - both
are adaptations of Rumiko Takahashi manga.
One episode of "Mao-chan" is set at the Hinata Inn from "Love Hina" -
both were written by Ken Akamatsu. (And one seiyuu played important
characters in both series, which was *almost* mentioned in the episode.)
There's a drag-race meet in the third OAV of "Oh My Goddess" that's
announced by Natsumi Tsujimoto from "You're Under Arrest!" - both are
adaptations of Kosuke Fujishima manga.
I'm not trying to launch a lawsuit or anything - I'm just curious about
them on the off-chance I decide to write a fanfic or something. *shrug*
I'll save my third question for later (it involves characters like Spiral
and Buzzsaw Girl) but, in the meantime, please feel free to answer these
questions and add your own.
With any luck, visitors that are looking for, say, stories featuring
robot girls will develop a 'taste' for Chobits or Ghost in the Shell and
support the creators of these 'franchises'.
Thank you all for your answers.

who will gladly admit to seeing Porky in Wackyland, Duck Amuck and Teen
Titans: Fractured over the last little while ^_^
Did you know ther's two different versions of the Porky in Wackyland
short? (One's in black-and-white, the other's in colour.)
