Re: The R1 Girl Who Leapt Through Time DVD

I just finished watching Bandai Entertainment's Region 1 DVD of "The Girl
Who Leapt Through Time" and I am very pleased with the quality. Over the
past couple of years I have, for the most part, been waiting for R1 versions
of anime movies to come out instead of paying the premium for the R2
releases and once again this has turned out well.

The R1 DVD is Bandai Entertainment 80380, English 5.1 and Japanese 5.1 Dolby
audio, full English subtitles including song lyrics and many signs, 16:9
anamorphic widescreen and approximately 98 minutes long. There are a number
of "extras" on the DVD including audio commentary with the director and
cast, a video of the premier event in Tokyo, a music video, the theatrical
trailer and a promo clip.

Other than the DVD, there was nothing in the case. That was a bit
disappointing when you consider that even Meitantei Conan R2 DVDs contain
collector post cards, and they are pretty much the worse case for R2 anime
DVDs.

The video and sound quality were great, even though I played the DVD back
through my ancient Pioneer LD/DVD player, albeit on my brand new Sony
Z-series LCD TV. The English subtitles were quite good and I couldn't fault
them for anything other than the usual choices that any translator has to
make.

The movie itself is wonderful to watch again and has a timeless quality to
it. The Japanese voice acting is great and I suppose someday I may even
listen to the English dubbing.

If you haven't seen this movie, go buy it and watch it. If you have seen
this movie, go buy it and watch it again.

Currently waiting for it from Netflix. It's been on my que for a few
weeks, and Tuesday it immediately went to "Long Wait" status. :(
