Quite a few anime shows on DVD available from the Houston Library.
Fuck, we barely have a selection of BOOKS at many of our local libraries.
Some of them are about as big as a Waldenbooks.

If you don't see the materials you want to see on the shelves, and if
you have a few dollars to spare, buy the materials in question, and
donate them to your local branch.
(Large chunks of my older manga collection have ended up at my local
branch, and I make it a point to buy two copies when Haruki Murakami
releases a new novel.)

Which is good when you have a local library that will accept such donations.
Houston Library is too big, however. If it isn't a donation from a big
money person or celebrity, as a general rule, they'll accept it, thanking
you, then put it on the 'books for sale' table most of the branches have
once you're gone to get some money for the operating fund out of it, or give
it to the Friends of the Library for the annual booksale - coming this May,
as it happens (I cleaned up good there last year, got a bunch of the
original AMG paperback volumes for $2 each and some other things)(and for
those who care, while it's still too soon to tell, looks like the cortisone
shot I got in my spine two days ago is at least halfway taking. Pain is
down by more than half - though it rose a bit overnight - so maybe I will be
able to handle going to it and be working again in time to have some money
to spend there - alas, though, I'm not allowed to go out long enough yet to
attend the annual Japanese Festival going on this weekend in Hermann Park -
whine!)
The last time I tried to donate books to the Alexandria (VA) Public
Library, it was like pulling teeth to even get them to take anything.
These were mostly science fiction paperbacks and hardbacks, along with
technical books. Apparently they didn't even want to bother with
trying to sell them, but they finally grudgingly allowed me to drop
them off. I have no idea what they did with them, I suspect they
sent them directly to the recyclers. I think part of the problem here
is that there are far too many well-paid literate people, who want to
take a deduction for donationing, so there are too many "spare books"
for libraries to take. I'm tempted to try to donate to libraries
out of the area, towards the I-81 corridor, but a friend out there
says the libraries are so small they can't take many donations.
