But since he knows that one can buy anime directly from Japan, why
does he think he can't get anime that's been fansubbed? Either
that's a *huge* elementary logical gaffe on his part... or he's
trolling the group.

Not necessarily either. It's more likely that he does not consider
getting anime which is worthless to him because he can't understand it
to qualify as getting anime at all. Therefore, only anime which has
already been translated is viable for him. He seems to be arguing that
much anime which has not been commercially released here has been so not
released *because* it was previously fansubbed and so the market had
already been saturated (or something to that effect), and so he does not
have the option of obtaining a commercial version of that anime which is
not worthless to him by virtue of being incomprehensible.

Or something like that.

It's not a completely worthless or completely unreasonable argument, but
I'm not sure I buy it overall.
