Reorganization of the rec.arts.anime.* sub-hierarchy
This is a formal Request for Discussion (RFD) for the creation of the
unmoderated newsgroup rec.arts.anime.
This is a formal Request for Discussion (RFD) to remove the unmoderated
newsgroups rec.arts.anime.games, rec.arts.anime.models, and
rec.arts.anime.music.
NEWSGROUPS LINE:
rec.arts.anime.creative Original works by fans, related to anime/manga.

rec.arts.anime.fandom Important issues concerning Japanese animation fans.
rec.arts.anime.games Video games, card games, and RPGs based on anime.
rec.arts.anime.info Announcements about Japanese animation. (Moderated)
rec.arts.anime.marketplace Things for sale in the Japanese animation world.
rec.arts.anime.misc Japanese animation fan discussions.
rec.arts.anime.models Models designed after Japanese animation characters.
rec.arts.anime.music Music as it pertains to Japanese animation.

First the numbers -- the first number is the total posts for the year 2007,
and the second number is the total posts for the month of December 2007.

RATIONALE: remove rec.arts.anime.games, rec.arts.anime.models, and
rec.arts.anime.music.
As can be seen by the above numbers, four newsgroups had less than 100 post
in all of last year [2007]. rec.arts.anime.info is a moderated newsgroup
that had an unhealthy moderator that recently died, hence the low traffic,
which was actually created by a single pre-approved poster. Furthermore,
there is some desire to retain the newsgroup with the addition of a new
moderator(s).
Of the remaining three, I suspect that what little discussion there was
previously in rec.arts.anime.games and rec.arts.anime.music, migrated to the
related alt.binaries.* newsgroup. rec.arts.anime.models is mostly eBay ads
with the rare on-topic post garnering one to zero replies. Given the near
absence of on-topic traffic, I recommend the removal of these three
newsgroups.
RATIONALE: create rec.arts.anime.
I recommend the re-creation of rec.arts.anime, which was rmgrouped May 20,
1996, as part of the misc-ification of 1996. It was originally created in
November 1987 -- Happy 20th Anniversary. This undesired renaming should be
un-done with the restoration of rec.arts.anime to be followed six months
later (for a transition period) with the removal of rec.arts.anime.misc.
Having *.misc as the primary discussion newsgroup has hurt the acquisition
of new posters. Having had access for a period of time to rec.arts.anime,
many years after it was rmgrouped, I would see 1 or 2 newbies wander in and
say 'hello' or ask a question in r.a.a. and, obviously, get no response.
Each one of those was a potential new regular poster that was lost, and that
was with r.a.a. being on just a few news servers.
In addition, it would temporarily hide us from the flame-bait crossposts and
the blind spam-bots. Of course there are likely going to be issues with some
news servers failing to automatically create rec.arts.anime, which is why I
suggest the retention of r.a.a.misc for a short period to smooth out the
transition and so we can make weekly 'we moved' posts so infrequent regulars
can find us.
CHARTER: rec.arts.anime
Google Groups lacks the pre-creation discussion and the Call For Votes for
r.a.a. and the ISC-Org control archive is missing the original control
newgroup message as it pre-dates the archive so, we will have to create one.
